Ashvegas: The City You Love. The News You Want.More of what’s going around:

-New brewery in the works: There’s apparently a new brewery in the works for South Asheville. Justice Brewing has just leased 5,300 square feet of space at 1127 Sweeten Creek Road, according to property records. More details as I get them.

-Bar Wars AVL: Asheville bartenders/bar managers – today’s the last day to enter.

-Music Video Asheville tickets: They’re on sale now. Music Video Asheville 2015 is April 29 at Diana Wortham Theatre. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

-Short-term rentals: There’s another “community engagement event” regarding short-term rentals in Asheville set for 5 p.m. on March 25 at the U.S. Cellular Center Banquet Hall.

-Co-op ready to grow: From the French Broad Food Co-op:

In recent years the Co-op has been busting at the seams with growth and opportunity. As Asheville’s only community owned and nonprofit grocery, the Co-op serves Asheville in ways that no other grocers can. It is time for the Co-op to grow. Debt free and owners of large parcels of land in downtown, the Co-op recognizes this opportunity may be larger than just a grocery store. We want to hear from the community about what their visions for the South end of downtown are.

“FBFC has been a trusted community institution in Asheville for 40 years. As Asheville continues to develop around us, we need the input of residents. The Co-op is on the verge of transforming the South end of Downtown and this is a vital opportunity to expand and preserve the community of our city” Josh L, Instructor of Sustainable Technologies, AB Tech

A facilitated discussion will take place March 21st, 3-5 pm at 76 Biltmore Avenue in downtown Asheville, adjacent to the Food Co-op. Light snacks, refreshments, and childcare will be provided. Community Members are invited to share their visions, ideals, and concerns. The discussion will be captured on paper by local graphic facilitator, Caryn Hanna.

-Faith, food, farming: Here’s the announcement:

Come to the Table: Conference on faith, farming, and food insecurity on Thursday, March 19 at Southwestern Community College, 447 College Dr, Sylva, NC. Visit www.rafiusa.org/cttt or call

-Elements Cafe to open: Elements Cafe/Roaming in the Raw on South Liberty Street is set to open any day now. On Instagram.

-Downtown Asheville Map & Guide spring 2015 edition: It’s out now. Downtown Asheville Map & Guide is published, designed and edited by John C. Tripp. Get the Downtown Asheville Map & Guide here.

-Documentary teaser: Here’s a quick update about the documentary film in the works about Asheville philanthropist Julian Price:

Wildcraft Media and The History Boutique are currently finishing up production for a documentary and oral history project on the late Julian Price, a man who dedicated his life and fortune to restoring the natural beauty and entrepreneurial spirit of downtown Asheville, North Carolina.

This will not be the brewery’s trade name, just the LLC legal name…

The name of the new brewery should be “Hotel”.

Washington State’s Justice Brewing says (via a funny tweet about the press) it’s not them: “two papers from NC want to write about a brewery we aren’t opening. @EverettHerald Doesn’t care we’re open unless we take out an ad.”

I see a trademark lawsuit on the horizon.
