Ashvegas: The City You Love. The News You Want. Some of what’s going around:

-The big Hollywood comedy film Masterminds that was shot in downtown Asheville and around Western North Carolina last year has a new release date – September 2016. The movie stars Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson and Jason Sudekis. Relativity Studio has been dealing with bankruptcy and has rescheduled the movie’s release several times this year. Screencrush.com reports:

Relativity’s most high-profile train to have ostensibly un-jumped the track is the comedy Masterminds, slated for a September 30, 2016 release. This marks the third official release date for the heist farce starring Zach Galifianakis, Jason Sudeikis, Kristen Wiig, and Owen Wilson as the criminals responsible for the 1997 Loomis Fargo robbery in North Carolina, referred to by some as the “hillbilly heist”.

Director Jared Hess, the man behind Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, will continue to poke fun at small-town yokels with the film in September. Masterminds was originally scheduled for release back on August 19, but Relativity shuffled it to October 9 when the whole “we don’t have any money anymore” rigamarole started to rear its ugly head. When they belly-flopped into full bankruptcy, they amended the release date from October 9 to “maybe never”, only moving to get it out in the world with this new announcement.

-Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center has announced that the annual {Re}Happening art show won’t be happening in 2016. Instead, it will hold “a month-long series of contemporary art events to be held in and around BMCM+AC’s galleries in downtown Asheville.” The series is called Interlude.

-The big Christmas tree is up at Ben’s Tune Up. The restaurant will be selling ornaments this month with proceeds going to the nonprofit Helpmate.

-51 Grille is closed. Gone. Damn.

-Word on the street is that Farm Burger is opening a second location in Asheville, this one down south in the former Subway location in the shopping center that’s home to Tupelo Honey south.

-The Franklin School of Innovation has the following fundraising event coming up Dec. 15:

Cary Cooper, who also teaches music at FSI, is a whimsical performer and an award winning songwriter. She plays the guitar and piano. In 2010, she added ukulele to her repertoire bringing about her reinvention as a solo artist after touring for 8 years in a duo with Tom Prasada-Rao. Guitars in the Classroom calls Cary “the Anne LaMott of songwriting…except she can get to the heart of things in 3 minutes instead of 200 pages.”

Tom Prasada-Rao is a musician’s musician – an unassuming presence on the folk scene since the early nineties. His voice belies his musicianship and his extraordinary songs. From Rishi’s Garden with its homage to Ravi Shankar to the groove of Sleeping Beauty , Tom’s music is melodic, ambitious, and reverent.

The Franklin School of Innovation is an Expeditionary Learning Buncombe County Charter School. The Franklin School follows the Expeditionary Learning model developed by Outward Bound and the Harvard School of Education, which emphasizes hands-on project-based learning, a spirit of inquiry and critical thinking, and strong character development. The school moved to its permanent location on Sardis Road in Enka. The site, 13+ acres, was purchased for the school by the Glass Foundation.
