Some of what’s going around:

The Claddagh Restaurant & Pub is coming to 4 College St. in downtown Asheville, according to city of Asheville building permits, which call for a remodeling of the space.

The Iron Hen Cafe has applied for its alcohol and occupancy permits, according to city of Asheville permits. Last year, the Triad Business Journal reported that the popular Greensboro eatery was planning to open a new location in Asheville, at 309 College St. That’s the new City Centre complex that is now how to BB& T bank and a new Hilton Hotel.

Asheville Biscuitry restaurant, which opened earlier this year in the former Dough location on Merrimon Avenue, has closed according to the Asheville Citizen-Times.

The Southern Highland Craft Guild welcomes Donna Kull as its new director of marketing and development, according to a press release. More:

A longtime fundraiser, she will initiate and manage strategic campaigns to increase awareness and support for the 86-year-old organization. With extensive experience in non-profit management, Kull will work closely with both staff and members during their current rebranding project, as well as other operational development programs.

The Haywood Street Congregation has two big events coming up. One is a free concert on the evening of July 17. The other is a performance at NC Stage. Both arebeing offered as a benefit for the Downtown Welcome Table.

FashMob, the most widely talked about fashion photography event, returns to Asheville on July 21, according to a press release. More:

This time, FASHMOB will take place at Salvage Station. This seasonal event provides a unique opportunity for photographers, designers, models, hair stylist, makeup artists, and other visually creative individuals to network and create images.

FASHMOB is one of the most influential fashion photography events in Asheville that perpetuates the high level of Asheville creativeness. The event also gets undiscovered talent a huge boost. I am not looking for any promotion for the event, because this one is expected to be at capacity. This is simply a lead to a potentially newsworthy Arts and Entertainment story for your publication. This is certainly a story that your staff photojournalist would truly enjoy to cover.

The event is free, so press passes are not necessary. Reporters and photographers will have free access to the venue and are free to video and/or photograph the event. Below is the official Facebook event link. In the “about” section on the event page, there is more information about FASHMOB as well as links to past events. I am the creator and host of the event, so feel free to contact me with any questions.

Here’s the official event link for FashMob.

Location may have been a factor, but the prices were kinds steep too. I actually went back for a second visit cuz their biscuits were really good, but I doubt I would have been a regular customer at their prices. It is hard to stay in the restaurant biz, especially when a town so small is already saturated with high-end eateries.

“Asheville Biscuitry restaurant, which opened earlier this year in the former Dough location on Merrimon Avenue, has closed”

Sounds like “musical differences” between the owner and the head chef. But that space is starting to feel cursed. Is it because it’s on the left side of Merrimon heading out of town, so you have to turn in across oncoming traffic? Or are Homegrown and other places on that stretch just, uh, eating everybody’s lunch?

Jason! Be the first to report that Kay Olsen has dropped her challenge to Brian Turner, after not raising a dime, campaigning once, and after being fined twice for failing to file required campaign documents.

It’s almost like she never really intended to run at all… The BCGOP has until Aug. 25th to come up with a sacrificial lamb to throw onto the ballot to take her place.
