Ingles was swindled out of more than $2 million after the grocery store company sent payments to a fake bank account, according to news reports. Somebody posed as an Ingles contractor and sent an email asking for a series of payments, which were subsequently authorized. Police are searching for the suspect.

Nine South Slope craft breweries are working separately to release a special beer on Oct.30. The beers will be made around the theme of “devil’s night.”

The Refinery Creator Space, the new home of the Asheville Area Arts Council, will hold a grand opening party on Sept. 29.

Central United Methodist Church will show an award winning documentary, Send My Mail to Nashville, at its Fellowship Hall on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7:15 pm., according to a press release. Directed by Stacey K. Black, the film offers a powerful and touching inside look at the songs and stories by songwriters as they live and work in a city with an estimated 55,000 songwriters. The event is free to the public, but donations to the church will be accepted.
