Here’s a run-down of what’s going around midweek, including an impending lineup announcement for the annual Warren Haynes Christmas Jam concert in December, and much more.
–The lineup for this year’s annual Warren Haynes Christmas Jam is set for Thursday. The announcement of the lineup and ticket sales info is a little later than usual, but organizers promise that the event is still a go. Haynes, an Asheville native, uses the event to raise money for the Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity nonprofit. Haynes and his fans have raised more than $1 million over the years.
–The MotoVicious motorcycle repair shop on South Lexington Avenue is closing. Owner Hunter Crombie has announced that he’s closing the shop and retiring, but not before throwing a big Octoberfest party this Friday. Here’s the announcement from the MotoVicious page on FB:
Hey Friends,
I’ve been putting off making this announcement, but the time has come for me to retire. The shop and the bar will be closing down at the end of this month. I hate to see it go, but my health demands that I take a break.
Don’t despair, I’ll still be working on projects from home, on a limited basis.
A huge thank you to all of you who made Moto Vicious a place to be in Asheville. Without you, it was just a building with bikes in it. It was you that made it special, and I deeply appreciate all the support you’ve shown over the past four years.

–Brewkamp, a new music and beer festival scheduled for the first week in November at Lake Eden in Black Mountain, has been canceled for this year. Organizers are working on making the event happen in 2017.
–ZaPow! gallery has announced that it won’t move into its new location on Coxe Avenue on the South Slope until December.
-Downtown Asheville independent art and craft shop Horse + Hero, at 14 Patton Ave., will host Woolly Press for a Riso Residency from Nov. 1 through Nov. 6, according to a press release. More:
Horse + Hero has represented local Risograph (Riso) print shop, Woolly Press, in their shop since opening their doors in 2014. The Riso Residency will showcase live risograph printing demonstrations by owners/artists Mica Mead and Colin Sutherland. A more in-depth Introduction to Riso workshop will be offered for free Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 6:30-7:30 at Horse + Hero. Established in 2013, Woolly Press is Asheville’s risograph design and print shop specializing in artist prints and small publications, such as comic books and poetry chapbooks. Risograph printing utilizes a Riso digital duplicator, a machine once found in the late 1990’s corporate environment. Churches, law firms, and other small to medium sized organizations used the Riso as a method to produce large inexpensive runs of one to two color editions. Over the years the Risograph slowly disappeared from this landscape and was replaced with the influx of photocopiers, laser printers, and other modern techniques.
–New Belgium Brewing will be tapping its Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough beer this Friday at its tasting room on Craven Street. The brewery will also be making little ice cream beer float tasters out on the deck from 4 to 6 p.m. The cost is a $1 cash donation to the non-profit Protect our Winters. Tips for the day will also go to Protect our Winters, and a portion of the proceeds from the Ben & Jerry’s collaboration nationally goes to POW as well. –The UNC Asheville Board of Trustees will meet on Friday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon in Brown Hall, room 217 on UNC Asheville’s campus, according to a press release. Committee meetings will be held Thursday, Oct. 20. The meetings are open to the public.
–Farm to Fender, an Asheville food truck, has announced that it is working on opening the Farm to Fender Cafe, a brick-and-mortar location at 3080 Sweeten Creek Road. More:
