More of what’s going around:

-The Capital Club of Asheville is opening to the public. The space atop the Capital Building on Patton Ave. has been a private wedding/event space. They’ve got a new ABC permit; the public can stop by from 1-7 p.m. Fri. for a drink w/ incredible mountain view.

Skillet is the name of a new podcast by local producers Jen Nathan Orris and Cass Herrington. Each episode is told by a storyteller, such as a chef, a farmer, an activist, a mom, as they cook up a favorite recipe, according to a press release. The eight-episode series features several well-known personalities on the Asheville food scene, including Patchwork Farms founder Sunil Patel, Milkglass Pie owner Keia Mastrianni, Out of the Blue food truck owner Santiago Vargas, and seventh-generation farm owner Robin Reeves. Skillet debuted Dec. 18 on podcast platforms like iTunes and Stitcher.

-Plans are in the works for the development of two buildings at 167 and 173 Merrimon Ave., across from Chick-fil-A. Both buildings would be 5,000 square feet or a little more.

-The downtown nightclub/dance club Room Nine on College Street is celebrating its grand reopening with a big New Year’s Eve party.

-Timos House, a downtown bar, dance club and venue featuring electronic music DJs is closing at the end of the year. They’re throwing one last party.

-Asheville area industrial hemp growers and businesses selling hemp/CBD products rejoiced Thursday as President Trump signed into law a federal farm bill that includes provisions to legalize industrial hemp.

-PongAVL is hosting a ping pong tournament for folks in the food and beverage industry at the Wedge Foundation’s Cloud Room on Jan. 21. Email [email protected] or DM them on Instagram at @pongavl to reserve your team’s spot (include business name and contact person with email.) Registration will be open until Jan. 11 or they’re sold out.
