Nina Simone is getting some well-earned renewed attention, reports uproxx.com. The musical great was born in Tryon, down in Polk County, about an hour south of Asheville. From uproxx.com:

As society continues to wrestle with racial and socio-political tensions, the release of two new Nina Simone-related projects — the documentary What Happened, Miss Simone? and star-studded tribute album, Nina Revisited — feel incredibly appropriate. There couldn’t be a better time to look through the the iconic singer’s life and legacy for hope, guidance, and inspiration.

Though her name will forever be legendary in blues, jazz, and soul circles, she was more than just a mere musician: Simone was an artist who spoke truthfully of life and the landscape around her, even when the masses forbade it, even when the truth was ugly and painful.

Re: Firestorm – Is that assclown who sprayed Suzi all over the town still involved as an owner/employee? Don’t know how anyone could support that store if his partners didn’t kick him to the curb.

If a person is a vegan and does crossfit, what do they talk about first?

I just note an under-reported story. In this case, a non-reported local story. I wonder who it is that is obsessed. Hmmm, anonymous troll?

Leave the poor guy alone. Wainscott obviously has serious problems to deal with. Maybe the reason it’s “non-reported” is that the rest of us know when it’s time to stop kicking someone who’s down.

      Find another punching bag.

Barry Summers says: “Leave the poor guy alone.”

Waaaa. Waaaa. Leave him alone. Waaaa. This is not news. Waaa.

Earlier this week, a reader was upset about our story on Asheville City Council candidate Jonathan Wainscott’s latest arrest and felony charge. The reader said we shouldn’t have covered the arrest, and that we were giving in to tabloid journalism. He “is not a serious candidate for City Council. Stop calling him a candidate,” the person said.

I hear Republican candidate for Asheville city council Dr. Carl Mumpower was arrested, charged and jailed for felony assault with a deadly weapon against a veteran. Is that true?

It’s telling that you think Carl Mumpower is on the same level as Wainscott. Mumpower actually served on the City Council for eight years, and continues to be actively engaged in social and political issues, whether you agree with him or not. Wainscott is a marginal candidate who ran one time and lost badly, and whose only public activity outside of running for office has been loudly grousing about the New Belgium project. You keep on with your endless project of separating us all into tribes, applying labels, and keeping score, though, I’m sure it’s been very productive.

Awww. Poor Jonathan Wainscott. Guy’s booked for domestic abuse, violates the restraining order against him, makes a mock masturbation video while not wearing pants, and now threatens a tenant with a knife. Wait. He’s a candidate for City Council? Oh leave the poor fella alone.

More hackery from the eyeball. I’m sure you would have let it go if this were a Conservative candidate.

Oh, please. Wainscott was an unsympathetic and ridiculous candidate long before his recent legal troubles, and no one took him particularly seriously regardless of their political beliefs. The man’s life is pretty clearly spiraling out of control now, whether or not he’s willing to acknowledge it, so I agree that posting constant updates about it would just feel like mean-spirited piling on. However much of a jerk he’s been, it’s never fun to watch someone’s life fall apart in public. If he actually gets around to filing his candidacy paperwork, we can return to ridiculing him, don’t worry.
