Here’s more of what’s going around:

-Brother Wolf Animal Rescue has announced that it plans to sell the 82 acres of Leicester property it bought four years ago, when it planned to build a $5 million animal sanctuary there. Brother Wolf Executive Director Leah Craig Fieser, who took the leadership post when founder Denise Bitz resigned in February, says that the nonprofit organization faces a $1 million “funding gap.” From the press release:

“We will be selling the sanctuary land in Leicester in order to significantly reduce our funding gap. This has been a very difficult decision to make. But in order to continue our impactful programing and increase stability, selling the land in Leicester is necessary during this critical time,” said Fieser.

Brother Wolf also announced recently that it is no longer selling its adoption center on Glendale Ave., but will continue its work there. And to address concerns and questions directly, the organization plans two community forums. The first will be held on Monday, April 29, at 5:30 p.m. at Highland Brewing, located at 12 Old Charlotte Highway in Asheville. The second is set for Wednesday, May 1, at 5:30 p.m. at Urban Orchard’s South Slope location at 24 Buxton Avenue in Asheville.

-Hi-Wire Brewing in Asheville has announced that it has acquired the rest of the building that is home to its Big Top production facility just off Biltmore Avenue near Biltmore Village and will open a wedding and event center there May 1.

-12 Bones Brewery, the barbecue joint’s new craft beer brewery, is set to open May 1.

-Asheville City Council recently agreed to spend $340,000 of taxpayers’ money to hire a consultant to start studying a complete overhaul of Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. The estimated cost of renovations is $40 million. Earl Swensson Architects, based in Nashville, is expected to produce “a programming and conceptual design concept” for Thomas Wolfe Auditorium with various levels of renovation options, according to the contract.
