The Lake Logan Multisport Festival is coming up on Aug. 6-7. Here are the details:

Athletes from across the US and beyond will once again flock to the Lake Logan Episcopal Center the weekend of August 6-7 for the 11th Lake Logan Multisport Festival. Close to 1,000 participants are expected for the three races that weekend.

Since the event was created in 2006, over 5,000 people have participated in at least one of the races. Because Western North Carolina is not home to a large number of triathletes, a majority of participants racing at Lake Logan come from other areas. Since the first race, 81% of all participants have come from outside Western North Carolina, requiring them to purchase hotel nights, meals and other travel expenses during their stay that has created a total economic impact of over $1,000,000 since 2006.

In addition to the local economy, many non-profits have benefited from the event over the past ten years and will so again in 2016. This year KARE, ARC of Haywood County, Girls on the Run, Waynesville Middle School and Tuscola High School Cross Country Team and the Candler Lions Club will receive donations from race organizers.

Race organizers are urging residents in the area who find themselves sharing the roads with cyclists that weekend to be cautious and patient. The Bethel area will be affected the most along Highway 276 between Highway 110 and Lake Logan Road but Canton, Clyde, Lake Junaluska, and Crabtree/Ironduff will see bike traffic on Saturday morning. The Sunday bike route includes only Canton and Bethel but those going to church that morning can expect some delays. Travel on Highway 215 at Lake Logan is discouraged as the lake and the road leading to Sunburst Campground will be congested with runners and cars through mid afternoon on Saturday and 11:00 AM on Sunday.

Information about the event may be found at www.gloryhoundevents.com.
