Here’s more of what’s going around, including the planned opening of a new axe-throwing bar in Asheville. Here we go:

-Friday will be another day of mourning in Asheville as funeral services will be held for the three victims of last week’s horrible shooting in West Asheville. The funeral for Erica Smith and her two children will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church on Oak Street in downtown #Asheville.

-Axeville Throwing Club, a place to throw axes and drink beer, is opening soon in Asheville. No details yet on the exact location, but follow them on Twitter at @AxevilleAVL. In the meantime, here’s a story by Eater.com explaining what “hatchet bars” are all about.

-The Waterbird coffee shop and craft cocktail bar is now open on Charlotte Street.

-Today is Dining Out for Life.

-Check out the Color Me Goodwill Fashion Show on Saturday at The Orange Peel on Saturday.

-Blue Ridge Adventure Vehicles in Asheville was included in a recent story by the Wall Street Journal about Baby Boomers enjoying the luxury van life.

-Scott Robertson, an afternoon DJ at WNCW for the past 10 years, has announced that he’s leaving the station. Today will be his last regular on-air shift, Robertson said in a Facebook post.

-Early voting has started. Get out and vote! Primary Election Day is May 8.

-Two of the hottest chefs right now are teaming up on June 1 and 2 for a Filipino food and barbecue restaurant pop-up. Chef Elliot Moss of Buxton Hall will be working with Chef Tom Cunanan of Bad Saint restaurant in Washington, DC, for the event here in Asheville. Both chefs have been named by Bon Appetit as having best new restaurants in 2016. More:

The pop-up will be hosted in Buxton Hall’s Remingtin Room from 6pm-10pm on both Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2, for uninitiated locals and eager food fans ready to experience the much lauded cuisine of Bad Saint. Guests can expect a full menu of Filipino-barbeque dishes, each packed with unique flavors, techniques, and textures. In addition to the two nights of pop-ups, all are welcome to a bonus “after-party” held in the main dining room on Saturday night – with special drinks, bites, and festivities to celebrate the collaboration.

Industry friends in particular are most welcome, and encouraged to come meet the Bad Saint crew. Party starts at 11pm at Buxton Hall, and goes til late.

Reservations are highly encouraged. To reserve your seat, email [email protected]. For more information regarding Buxton Hall, visit www.buxtonhall.com.

    Oh right – it’s the 2nd-and-a-half Amendment:

“Congress shall make no law restricting the right of drunks to hurl lethal objects around in an enclosed space.”

Axe throwing and alcohol … what could possibly go wrong? They might have just a wee bit of trouble locating a carrier for liability insurance.

It rather sounds like we’ve opened so many bars and “tasting rooms” around town that we’ve been reduced to having to use stupid fads to justify opening even more.
