Here’s more of what’s going around, including an early look at the weather forecast for Monday, Aug. 21, which is the big solar eclipse day.

-The Asheville weather forecast for next Monday – the day of the big solar eclipse – is looking pretty good so far. Brad Panovich, chief meteorologist at WCNC-TV in Charlotte, reports that weather models right now are calling for “high clouds” across Western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina on Monday. The local Ray’s Weather site, in a forecast published Sunday, called for a partly cloudy day next Monday. We’ll stay tuned.

-Speaking of the solar eclipse, a number of local businesses will be closed on Monday to allow people to view the eclipse. Biscuit Head and Sunny Point Cafe in West Asheville will be closed, as will Pet Vet on Patton. Highwater Clays and Charlotte Street Computers will also be closed. What other businesses are closing?

-The Asheville Citizen-Times has hired two new reporters, Jenn Bowman and Dillon Davis. The two come from the Gannett-owned newspaper Missouri. Bowman will be covering Buncombe County news and issues, while Dillon will be covering growth and economic issues. The hirings follow the recent departure of four newsroom reporters and photographers.

-Asheville Outlets has announced that it is offering a shuttle to drive shoppers to and from the center parking lot during Flea for Y’all. The flea features over a hundred booths and displays filled with art from local artisans and master craftsman, antiques, collectibles, vintage and repurposed home furnishings, according to a press release.

-Manicomio Pizza, the announced pizza joint at 27 Biltmore Ave. (the former Hannah Flannagan’s), still isn’t open.

-Neither is Cornerstone Restaurant, which has been undergoing a massive renovation of its Tunnel Road location just about all year.

-Richard Marx and Rick Springfield are scheduled to perform at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville on Dec. 7. Tickets go on sale Aug. 18

-Luke Combs will play the US Cellular Center in #Asheville on Dec. 16. Tix on sale Aug. 18.

-The Black Jacket Symphony presents Grateful Dead’s “American Beauty” plays #Asheville’s Thomas Wolfe Auditorium Oct. 13.
