More of what’s going around:

Stu Helm writes that Collin Lee, chef at the Appalachian Chic food truck, is recovering from injuries sustained following a fire in his truck. Loyal Ashvegas reader Stephan told me there was a food truck fire down on the South Slope on Thursday. An Asheville Fire Department spokeswoman said Friday afternoon that firefighters responded to the report of a food truck fire along Coxe Avenue Thursday afternoon. Two employees were transported to the hospital for injuries – one suffered minor injuries, the other moderate injuries, the FD spokeswoman said. One of the employees put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, she said.

-Speaking of food trucks, the Johnson City Press reports that the manager of the Destination Eggroll food truck in Asheville has been accused of stealing the popular Noli food truck concession trailer there. More:

Rhonda Kay Profitt, 27, 162 Fietop Road, Maggie Valley, North Carolina, was arrested Tuesday evening by deputies of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. The arrest took place at 348 Medical Park Drive in Marshall, North Carolina. She was being held on bond for $25,000 and awaiting trial. A vehicle similar to the one she’s accused of stealing, a dark Chevy Surburban, appears to be pulling the Noli concession trailer in video footage released after it was reported stolen by Howze the morning of Friday, July 29. Johnson City Police Department Lt. Kevin Peters — who’s been investigating the trailer’s disappearance — said a charge of theft over $60,000 awaits Profitt in Johnson City.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has a new web app that allows users to track biodiversity. More:

The park’s Inventory and Monitoring Branch has partnered with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and the School of Arts at the University of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville, to create a new web application called Species Mapper. Everyone from park managers to school groups can use Species Mapper to explore suitable habitats for over 1,800 plant and animal species. The application can be found here.

-Is the revamped LAAFF happening this year? I haven’t heard much about it at all.

-There’s an opening reception tonight at The Block Off Biltmore for a new photo exhibition by Asheville photographer Micah Mackenzie. The reception goes from 6-9 p.m.” It is a poignant collection reflecting what members of society deal with on a daily basis,” says The Laurel of Asheville. If you miss this one, Micah has another opening reception on Aug. 12 at Pink Dog Gallery for his “LURE” exhibition.

Asheville City Council will hold a public hearing on Aug. 9 regarding its proposed bond referendum. The meeting starts at 5 p.m.

Sanctuary Brewing Company will hold its one-year anniversary party on Sunday, Aug. 21. “The celebration will be a festival-like atmosphere with live music and events beginning at 1 p.m., culminating in a headlining performance by the popular Carolina string band Town Mountain at 3 p.m.,” a brewery press release states.

-The Asheville Food and Wine Festival is coming up Aug. 19-20. Check it.
