Here’s more of what’s going around, including the news of a new restaurant called Iron & Clay in the works by Asheville and restauranteur John Fleer. Here we go:

-Asheville Chef John Fleer, a James Beard-nominated chef, will helm the new Iron & Clay, a 100-seat restaurant at The Foundry Inn hotel opening this fall in downtown behind the YMI Cultural Center at the corner of Eagle and Market streets. The restaurant will pay homage to the African-American history of the area, reports Mackensy Lunsford of the Asheville Citizen-Times. Asheville chefs have forged strong connections w/ hoteliers. Chef Peter Pollay of Posana restaurant is working w/ John McKibbon at the AC Hotel and the Arras still under construction, while Chef Duane Fernandes has teamed with Tony Fraga of the new Cambria.

-The Ohio-based Marco’s Pizza chain has pulled construction permits for its new south Asheville location. This is the chain that forced our local Marco’s Pizzeria to change its name a year ago (their new name is 828 Family Pizzeria).

-Work on the massive new south Asheville location of 12 Bones barbecue restaurant is underway; the remodeling construction includes the installation of a new brewery there.

-Continental Lounge, the new Asheville restaurant by Vijay Shastri, is set to open in a few weeks, according to Shastri. He’s opening on Biltmore Avenue in the former Local Provisions space.

-Arturo’s Barbershop is opening up on Hendersonville Road. Arturo Chavarria is the brother of Guadalupe Chavarria, a well-known Asheville salon owner and stylist. Arturo has been working at Local Barber and Tap.

-A major interior remodeling job is coming to the Outback Steakhouse on Tunnel Road in Asheville.

-Metal and Thread, a shop/artist studio, is coming to 16 Allen St. just off Haywood Road in West Asheville.

-Roanline, an outdoor gear brand based in Asheville, is celebrating the grand opening of its new West Asheville retail location on Saturday.
