More of what’s going around:

-The former Jackson Underground restaurant in the basement of the Jackson Building is going to transform into The Underground Cafe under the ownership of Jay Medford, former chef at Bone and Broth on Charlotte Street. Here’s Medford, who was commenting on a Stu Helm post on Facebook:

Hey all! It’s going to be called The Underground Cafe with DoughP Doughnuts (dope lol). I’m adding on breakfast and coffee service, hand made yeast raised doughnuts, and beer and wine! Pretty excited to do this in my hometown. Just applied for permits so hopefully will have a projected date of opening soon.

-The Asheville Citizen-Times is questioning the legality of closed-session meeting between the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners and Asheville attorney Sean Devereaux. Reporter Jennifer Bowman writes in a story Thursday that commissioners met Tuesday with Devereaux in secret session although they had not yet retained him, a move that’s illegal, according to the general counsel for the N.C. Press Association. The attorney for the Buncombe board disagreed, saying that was a too-strict interpretation of the North Carolina Open Meetings law and that commissioners may yet hire Devereaux. Devereaux told the newspaper that he met with commissioners and gave them a general overview of the federal investigation process. As Ashvegas reported Wednesday, Devereaux’s meeting with commissioners is of note because of the ongoing federal investigation into former Buncombe County Manager Wanda Greene.

-The Explore Asheville Convention and Visitors Bureau markets Asheville in a variety of ways, including online. Check out this video, posted in July on the Matador Network. It’s a paid placement, and it shows a dog named Sammy “visiting” Asheville:
