Ashvegas: The City You Love. The News You Want.More of what’s going around:

-Curate is expanding in downtown Asheville, confirms the Asheville Citizen-Times. The Hot Sheet reported that an expansion of Curate was in the works back in August. Next year will mark the five-year anniversary of Curate, which is helmed by Chef Katie Button, a James Beard award nominee.

-Sanctuary Brewing Company in Hendersonville has announced that it will hold a beer release party on Saturday, the same day as its first ticketed music event featuring Bobby Bare Jr.

-King James Public House on Charlotte Street is closing and a new restaurant is opening in its place, but it will not be a sports bar, reports Mountain Xpress, clarifying an earlier report.

-Mural artist Paper Frank is adding to the awesome Sky Lanes Bowling Alley mural.

-Frank’s Roman Pizza on Sardis Road is closed.

-The Haywood Bridge over Interstate 240 is under repair for about the next three weeks. From NCDOT:

One of the two northbound lanes on the Haywood Road bridge over I-240 in Asheville is expected to remain closed until early January as a result of damage to a beam under the bridge.

On Friday afternoon, Dec. 11, a tractor trailer hauling an excavator was traveling east on I-240 and when it went under the Haywood Road bridge, the boom of the excavator was too high and struck one of the steel beams under the bridge.

NCDOT engineers closed the one lane to lighten the traffic weight load on the damaged beam. The bridge itself remains safe for use.

The lane closure will remain in place until a contractor can repair the damage. Drivers on Haywood Road need to pay extra attention in the area of the closure.

Asheville Citizen-Times reporter Caitlin Byrd announced today via Twitter that she’s leaving the newspaper to join the digital team at the Charleston Post & Courier newspaper.

-Loyal reader Tiger has this update on Publix in Hendersonville:

South Market Village received unanimous approval from Hendersonville Planning Board. Groundbreaking is projected for mid-2016. Publix would open in 2017. Assuming this is official or in the process of being official, it will be the 26th store opened or announced in North Carolina.

Now that Publix has been identified as the supermarket for South Market Village and is coming to Hendersonville, I would look for Ingle’s to quickly proceed in replacing store 77 on Spartanburg Highway. Like stores 24 (Brevard Road) and 70 (East Andrew Johnson Highway, Greeneville, Tennessee), a temporary closure would involve associates working at other stores temporarily, the existing store demolished, the new store built in its place, and the store open again within a year.

-Asheville Outlets has announced the installation of a Tesla Motors Supercharger station. Designed for the Model S, the Supercharger houses stations for eight vehicles and will be able to charge them in minutes versus hours, according to a press release. The station will be located in the parking lot near the Dillard’s Clearance Center.

-Brewers of Asheville and Western North Carolina on Monday were presented with the SEIA® Solar Champion Award by the Solar Energy Industries Association, according to a press release.

Leading Asheville and Western North Carolina breweries including the Appalachian Mountain Brewery, French Broad Brewery, Highland Brewing Company, Innovation Brewing, New Belgium Brewing and Sierra Nevada Brewing Company have turned to solar energy to power their operations – cutting energy bills, while boosting solar jobs in the region.
