Tupelo_Honey_2013Heads up, folks. Here’s the press release:

Tupelo Honey Cafe, open in the heart of downtown Asheville since 2000, will undergo a substantial $330,000 renovation beginning March 17 with completion scheduled for March 27. The restaurant will build expanded bar capacity enabling full bar service, and will add 17 new seats. Scheduled date for re-opening at the 12 College Street location is 9 a.m. March 28.

To celebrate the renovation, the restaurant will hold a special open house from 3 until 5 p.m. March 28, offering a sampling of complimentary appetizers. In addition, the first 25 customers will receive a copy of the restaurant’s new cookbook, Tupelo Honey Cafe: New Southern Flavors From The Blue Ridge Mountains, and the first 100 customers will receive a free pint glass. The new bar will add to its beer offerings, featuring a total of 9 frosted beer taps.

The new expanded bar will also feature unique décor elements, including a new cloud ceiling treatment, belted ceiling fan system, new lighting, a new wooden pergola at the bar, and new artwork by Asheville artist Simone Wilson. The patio furniture will also be replaced and upgraded.

GEM Constructors from Marion, NC, will oversee the renovation.

The south Asheville location will be open throughout the construction work at the downtown store. The south Asheville restaurant is located at 1829 Hendersonville Road in south Asheville.

About Tupelo Honey Cafe
Since opening in downtown Asheville, N.C. in 2000, Tupelo Honey Cafe has become one of the most beloved restaurants in the Southeast. The award-winning restaurant’s casual, colorful and whimsical atmosphere and farm-to-fork New South cuisine have grown in popularity, spurring additional locations and two nationally distributed Tupelo Honey Cafe cookbooks. The second cookbook is to arrive in all restaurants by the end of March 2014. Owner Steve Frabitore opened a second Asheville location in 2010 and the first out-of-market restaurants in Knoxville, Tenn. in late 2012 and in Greenville, SC, and Charlotte, NC, in 2013.
