highland-cold-mountain-winter-aleCan’t believe it will be 20 years for Highland Brewing in Asheville. Here’s the press release:

Highland Brewing Company, Asheville’s first brewery since Prohibition, has special reason to celebrate the coming of the new year: 2014 marks the company’s 20th anniversary, and the beloved beer maker has big plans on tap.

Highland fans will see the signs beginning in January, with 20th Anniversary bottle caps adorning their favorite brews, and new artwork emerging on labels and packaging. Then, in April, Highland will unveil its official 20th Anniversary beer at a party that will have the brewery and the community abuzz. And that’s just the beginning: throughout 2014, Highland will brew and release “20 Beers for 20 Years,” a series of special offerings.

“We have so much to celebrate,” said Highland Vice President Leah Wong Ashburn. “Building a business in downtown Asheville in ’94 was risky! My father (Founder Oscar Wong) had a vision for the brewery and saw the potential for the city. Since then, both have seen tremendous growth. This is a special place and we’re proud to be here – now our beer tells that story from Ohio to Florida. To honor our 20 years, we’re making 20 special beers: 10 recipes from our archives and 10 all-new brews, to celebrate both the past and the future. Four special editions will be available in a limited number of collectible 22-ounce bottles.”

Some of the 20 celebratory beers will be made available to Highland’s nine-state distribution area, while some will be served exclusively in Western North Carolina. About Highland Brewing Company
Since its founding in 1994, Highland Brewing Company has focused on quality, with owner/founder Oscar Wong weaving his philosophy of honesty, integrity and respect into every aspect of the company. Wong has been called “The Godfather of Craft Beer in Western North Carolina,” having led Asheville from a zero-brewery town to a brewing community that has garnered national attention, including being named “Beer City U.S.A.” four consecutive times in a nationwide poll. Highland’s goal is to be the craft brewery of choice in the Southeast, measured not by size, but by quality of beer and a responsible culture that is sustainable for employees, customers and the environment, and by maintaining strong ties to the local community.
