The Bom Bus is waiting at the starting line. Motor revving, the Portuguese food truck — which is really a stubby bus shell on a 1998 Chevy van — is waiting for another permit to allow owner Trevon Dunn to vend downtown.

Currently, all 10 permits have been snapped up by other food truck vendors, Gypsy Queen Cuisine and the Lowdown Food Truck among them. Other vendors, like the Smash Box food truck (which we’ll feature in the April 26 issue of Scene) are on the waiting list for more.

The number of permits might grow soon. A March 8 Downtown Commission meeting supported adjusting the regulations for the downtown area to lift the limit on food trucks. Trucks would be tied to finding — and submitting permits for — a specific lot, which requires changing the wording of the current ordinance.

A 9 a.m. April 24 meeting at City Hall will revisit the issue.
