haywood_road_shell_station1There’s a new bar coming to Haywood Road. It will be in the Shell Station at the corner of Haywood and Vermont that is getting a major makeover, as I report in the Ashvegas Hot Sheet in this week’s Asheville Scene.

I haven’t heard a name for the bar yet. The Shell station will no longer have a laundromat. In its place will be the bar and a giant retail selection of beers. Stay tuned.

Meantime, Haywood Road continues to rock with the recent openings of Biscuit Head restaurant and Oyster House Brewery, which just adds to the great selection of independent restaurants and shops there in West Asheville. And there’s more coming.

Hey Jason, Do you know what’s going in at 707 Haywood Rd(former Fred’s Beds and a few doors down from The Hop West)? They have cut a couple holes in the floor opening up to the basement and one that looks like a skylight in the ceiling. The application on the door says something about a restaurant and retail space on the main level and offices in the basement level.

Jeremy, yes. It is going to be a new music venue, called The Mothlight. At least that’s what I heard last year. I think that’s still the plan.

707 is not the location of the Mothlight, that would be next door on the corner at 701 Haywood. Mr Freds Beds occupied two buildings which were separated when they were sold. 707 Haywood is been renovated for three tenants. A lease has been signed for the entire lower level. It will have a separate entrance at street level incorporating the skylight and a floating steel staircase. It is neither a bar or restaurant but a relocation of an established downtown business. Tenant will announce in the near future. The upstairs suites are available for lease, contact Jim Diaz at Covestar.

I used to roll our laundry up the street in a cart to wash it there back in the day… sucks for folks with limited transportation.
