Here’s the note from loyal reader Loren. I missed this fund-raising event last week, but wanted to help spread the word about the new project. Awesome:

My name is Loren Cardeli, i am the manager of Pisgah Brewing Company.  I am writing you because i  would love to tell you about my upcoming project that will mark my departure not only from the brewery but from Asheville as well.

Ever since moving here over six years ago i have dreamed of starting a business that culminates ecological farming techniques and shares them with the world.  My dream is finally coming true.  I have started a local initiative called A Growing Culture. The purpose of AGC is to cultivate a web based community where farmers and sustainable agriculture advocates can come together for education, networking, idea exchange, ethical debate and inspiration.

The site will work in some ways like a blog but there will be several contributing authors, fellow agriculture enthusiasts and students like myself (we call ourselves- AGJUNKYS). There will be a virtual interactive map as well as live news feeds, a forum, photo/video galleries, inspirations, as well as farm profiles and essays.

I am very excited about launching this project. I fly to Thailand in the beginning of January and will travel Asia and Africa to document the practices used by the small farmers of the world. I truly believe that there is so much to learn from these people who have been farming for 20 centuries the same soil. They have been producing outstanding yields while simultaneous building humus and organic matter in the soil. I look forward to building Asheville’s web community.

Sincerely,
Loren Cardeli

Uuuuh, this is about to be awkward. Loren Cardeli is most definitely a guy. Went to college with him. Know and love him and the work he's doing. Good luck, Cardeli!

I think what Loren is doing is great, but it seems fair to point out that Loren is a dude…
