Dawes in Ashevile with Femi the studio dog

We blogged about Dawes in Asheville back in September, when, after announcing in June they’d be recording here, the band returned to record its April 2013 release, Stories Don’t End, at downtown Asheville’s Echo Mountain Recording Studios.

Three releases recorded at Echo Mountain were nominated for Grammys last year. Good luck to Dawes with its 2013 release!

From Rolling Stone:

Dawes will release Stories Don’t End on April 9th through their own label in conjunction with their management company, Q Prime, after leaving ATO Records last year. “Some people might depend on a label’s vision of what a record should be, but that’s never been us,” (band member Taylor) Goldsmith says.

Recorded in five weeks last September in Asheville, North Carolina, Stories Don’t End features clean production from King (Tom Waits, Norah Jones), who helped the band break out of its vintage mold, though they don’t completely strip away that Laurel Canyon sound.

“These are the same four guys that you’ve gotten to know very well on the first two records, but at the same time, this album feels like a growth,” Goldsmith says.
