Some of what’s going around:

-The occupancy rate for Buncombe County hotels was up 1.6 percent in December 2015 as compared to December 2014, according to new Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority statistics. The hotel occupancy rate also increased in November 2015 after dipping slightly in October 2015 as compared to the same month in 2014. (The occupancy rate was 69.2 percent for December 2015.) The average daily room rate for hotels in Buncombe was $144.92 for December ’15, a 6.7 percent increase over the same month in the prior year ($135.87). Also, the total number of Asheville Regional Airport passengers in December 2015 was down 11 percent compared to December 2014 (55,252 passengers for this last December, compared to 62,208 for December 2014.)

Tupelo Honey is opening a restaurant in Denver, reports the Denver Post, the restaurant’s first outside the Southeast. Tupelo Honey is “opening a room later this year in the Platform, a luxury highrise near Denver Union Station, the newspaper reports.

Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina has opened up in Asheville in a spot at the entrance of Biltmore Park, the Mountain Xpress reports.

John Lyda, Highland Brewing’s brewmaster who has been with the grandaddy of Asheville craft breweries since it opened more than 20 years ago, has suddenly left that job, Tony Kiss at the Asheville Citizen-Times reports. There’s no explanation for why, and Lyda was not available for comment, according to the report.

WLOS has a new website. It’s still not pretty.

-Somebody is making tiny paper cranes and leaving them around Asheville. They’re posting pics of the cranes on Instagram at asheville.paper.cranes.

Reminder from Mellow Mushroom in downtown Asheville, which is undergoing a big renovation, from their page on FB: “There has been some confusion about the ad on the radio, but we will be giving 1/2 off pizzas the week of MARCH 7th when we REOPEN. PLUS there will be door prizes and other awesome specials!”

-Reminder that Launch Trampoline Park is planning to open in mid-March.

-There’s a new Asheville Regional Airport commercial out now.

-There’s a new trailer out for a documentary about the Asheville Urban Trail. The documentary will be shown on March 8 at the start of the Asheville City Council meeting.

CraftBeer.com named The Thirsty Monk the best beer bar in North Carolina, as voted on my its readers.

-The third annual Mindfulness Festival is coming back to UNC Asheville’s quad on April 23. There will be a full day of music, art, workshops, and community building. Applications for involvement now open @mindfulnessfestival.org.

-The Asheville Planning & Zoning Commission meets March 2. That’s today.
