Here’s your Weekend Update for the weekend of May 20:

What up, Asheville? This weekend is packed full of events, and many of them revolve around the art and music scenes in town. Here are a few that we’re extra excited about.
Friday
Downtown After 5
5 pm on @ N Lexington Ave
The first Downtown After 5 of 2016 happens this Friday! One of Asheville’s favorite and longest running street festivals (this is the 28th season!), it’s beloved for its laid-back vibe in the heart of downtown. This Friday, the Jeff Thompson Band opens for CHA WA, whose performance style is described as “traditional Mardi Gras Indians meets street level funk.” Downtown After 5 happens on the third Friday of each month from May to September on N. Lexington Ave.
Friday and Saturday
Album Release Shows for The Honeycutters
The Honeycutters are celebrating the release of their fourth studio album, On the Ropes (Organic Records), by doing two nights of shows at Isis. On Friday night, they’ll play an intimate seated show. Saturday night is a standing show. Come early, grab a bite, and stay for the music. Tickets are on the Isis website, as well as more details, times, etc. Facebook event page here.
FridaySunday
Burners & BBQ
River Arts District
This three day mural event happens in the River Arts District and will bring over 50 burners (the most talented graffiti and street artists) together to create the largest public art installation in Asheville when they transform an old building into art. Food trucks and beverages will be available for sale as you watch the beauty unfold.
Saturday
Foundation Hellraiser
530 Lyman St
12-8 pm
The Foundation Hellraiser is a fundraiser put on by Arts 2 People and the Asheville Skate Foundation. It’s raising money for the DIY sculpture and skate park built by volunteers in collaboration with PUSH Skateshop. There will be live music, DJs, skateboard exhibitions, contests, and more.
Echo Mountain 10 Year Anniversary Party!
The Salvage Station
3-11 pm
Asheville’s own internationally acclaimed recording studio, Echo Mountain, celebrates 10 years! Come check out the (free) party, enter a raffle to win recording time at the studio, and listen to live music from Posh Hammer, Kat Williams, and more, as well as tunes from DJ Molly Parti.
Saturday and Sunday
The River Arts District Spring Studio Stroll
Studios throughout the RAD
10 am-6 pm
The RAD’s Spring Stroll happens Saturday and Sunday! Over 180 artists are opening their studios and sharing their creativity with you. Enjoy special exhibitions, receptions, and refreshments as you wander around (or take a free shuttle between spots).
What’d we miss, Asheville? Tell us in the comments! We’ll see you out and about!
