Congratulations to Asheville’s chef dream team of William Dissen of The Marketplace, Elliott Moss of The Admiral and Michael Moore of Blind Pig. The crew won The Cast Iron Culinary SuperBowl cooking competition, held over the weekend at the posh Greenbrier Resort in West Virgina.

More about the event:

Culinary Superbowl

The Cast Iron Culinary SuperBowl™, brings teams from neighboring states together in a head-to-head competition. Prizes include significant regional recognition and acclaim, a cast iron skillet trophy, and a stay at the Inn at Little Washington.

The Cast Iron Cook-Off helps all of us reconnect with, maintain and celebrate traditions—the recipes, folklore, cooking utensils, ingredients—and adapt them creatively to fit our current lifestyles while keeping in mind recent findings about nutrition and health. Being rooted in tradition doesn’t mean that we must be bound to or stuck in the past. In fact, it’s the opposite. Change is easier and more effective when you consider where others have already gone and what they discovered does and doesn’t work.

A rural community’s economic growth and development can evolve out of its cultural heritage. In the same way that it’s important to know who you are and where you’ve been, it’s equally important to know where you’re going. Our common sense approach to development initiatives identifies and capitalizes on our strengths, past experiences and previous successes, and also identifies current culinary emphases. The Cast Iron Cook-Off creates opportunities to “open the world’s eyes” to the value of our communities as destinations—along with the unique culinary and heritage experiences available there.

Great news! Asheville’s chefs continue to put our food scene on the map.

If the stay at the Inn at Little Washington includes dinner – then it is a grand prize indeed.
