Karen Chavez of the Asheville Citizen-Times blogs the exciting news at girlsgoneoutdoors:

Lauren Tamayo, 29, who earned a silver medal with her team at the 2012 London Olympics in the inaugural women’s team pursuit race in track cycling, announced Tuesday she is throwing her bike into the ring for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

“I am officially announcing that I have decided to try to go to Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympics,” Tamayo told me tonight. “Everything has kind of come full circle. This is the one-year anniversary of when I walked into Olympic Village in London. It was a long road and a hard road to get to London. I was definitely exhausted from the process.

That’s exciting for Tamayo, who lives in Asheville, and for all us who are ready to cheer her on.
