Congrats to Susan Gabriel, author of The Secret Sense of Wildflower, for being named to the list.

More here from the Hendersonville Times-News:

One night in her sleep, Susan Gabriel snapped awake and heard a voice. It wasn’t just any voice. It was the voice of Louisa May “Wildflower” McAllister, the main character of her new book, “The Secret Sense of Wildflower.”

The words she heard and jotted down on a note pad that night became the first words of the book: “There are two things I’m afraid of. One is dying young. The other is Johnny Monroe.”

Sleepily, Gabriel tussled with whether or not to get up and write the words down, but in the end Wildflower won out.

“I decided that if I didn’t write it down, she’d find someone else to tell her story,” Gabriel said.

The decision paid off, as Kirkus Book Review recently named Gabriel’s book one of the “Best Books of 2012.”
