cryptozoology_2013This party on Saturday looks great. Get out and support these local artists. The event is 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at ZaPow! in downtown Asheville:

Opening Reception for The ZaPow Member Artist Group Show MYTH and the Launch of Jake LaGory’s Coloring book Cryptozoology containing 22 original illustrations of legendary animals ranging from Bigfoot to Bunyip.

Cryptozoology is a coloring book containing 22 original illustrations of legendary animals ranging from Bigfoot to Bunyip. Raised by zoologists, artist Jake LaGory was driven to create a project that connected his scientific filter of the natural world with his interest in imagining the life that could inhabit it. The objective in each interpretation was to provide pseudo-scientific rationales for the existence of often-bizarre creatures; be they wanderers of an errant evolutionary path or a distant cultural memory of man’s interactions with prehistoric beasts.

Each coloring book was assembled by hand and printed locally on a risograph machine, a style of printing that creates crisp contrast on beautiful, tactile papers. The end result is a collection of drawings that allow people of all ages to interact with art in an engaging, creative way. Cryptozoology Coloring books are $6 each and are available for sale at ZaPow. We can also ship than nation wide. (Shipping is $5 to the continental United States.) Jake LaGory will be available to sign your coloring book at the opening reception.
