Zeytoon, a Lebanese deli/market, is in the works for the Asheville area. The owner is Suzy Phillips. Sounds like Suzy is shooting for an early summer opening.
Here’s a little more from Bold Life in October:
Suzy Phillips is a self-taught chef with 15 years of experience in the food industry. Born and raised in Lebanon, Philips moved to the states with her family in 1988, fleeing the long Lebanese Civil War. Phillips is currently in the process of starting a Lebanese deli/market called Zeytoon, slated to open in the spring of 2010. She also caters and teaches private cooking classes that specialize in Lebanese cuisine. As if that weren’t enough to keep her busy, Phillips hosts, directs, edits and produces a Lebanese cooking show called Gypsy Queen Cuisine that has aired on URTV (Asheville’s public access) and Rochester NY’s public access channel. Phillips is married to artist Gabriel Shaffer and loves to garden, paint, travel and hike with her two dogs, Ginger and Olive.
And thanks to loyal reader Jen for pointing me to Zeytoon’s page on Facebook.
Asheville dining options just keep expanding. Great!

Yay, this so exciting guys, thanks for the plug! Hope to open in the summer if all goes well and as planned! Jessica, i will have meat pies, spinach pies and cheese pies as far as savory pastries are concerned, working on 5 falafel flavors that will blow your taste buds and of course will have some awesome dips, kababs and salads, all from an authentic Lebanese kitchen! I can’t wait to feed you Ashevegas!!!!!
How exciting Welcome Suzy and Zeytoon! I was wondering if you will be making syrian meatpies. Looking forward to it.
Could not be more excited about this opening! The only I can get Lebanese is when I go and visit my family!
