Wild chase
WLOSer Holly Headache brought us the story Saturday of a wild police chase in which the suspect ended up “barricading himself in a pond.” That’s right – Holly, and Russ “Beefcake” Bowen said that the suspect “barricaded himself in a pond.”

Exactly how does one barricade themselves in a pond? Hmmm. Let’s see – the dictionary says that the verb form of barricade means to “render unsuitable for passage; prevent access to by barricading.” Well, that’s interesting, because it didn’t look like the drunk had blocked police from the entire pond. The WLOS video just showed him standing in the water, yelling.

Anyway, that was the lead story. It all started early Saturday morning when a forest service officer saw somebody driving erratically. A chase ensued. The car ended up flying off Dillingham Road out in Barnardsville. Then police found the dude in the middle of the pond.

Holly got some great quotes from somebody who knew the dude. “He’s a good dude. He just gets tipsy and wrecks vehicles,” the buddy said. Rack that tape! Holly said the good ol’ boy has been in and out of jail since 1988.

In other news…
A car flipped on I-40 near exit 55 in east Buncombe. Nobody was hurt, but WLOSers had the vid… Despite Cuevas predicting that Saturday would be a washout, the weather wasn’t bad… A story that WLOSers teased to as if it were local – about a soldier returning home from Iraq – was actually from Wisconsin or someplace… And some guy at three giant burritos in three minutes and eight seconds to win a round in Moe’s burrito eating contest. The Hendersonville Road restaurant will have another round in a week or two.
