Your official Ashvegas City Council Election ’05 predictions: Git ‘er Dunn

Share

We’ll folks, here we go. After watching the local politicos have at it, and listening to your intriguing insights, Ashvegas is ready to make its official predictions for Tuesday’s City Council election.

Tuesday night, Ashvegas will have Joe Dunn as mayor, with incumbents Holly Jones, and Carl Mumpower winning re-election. Robin Cape will win the third spot.

Turns out, this is the exact same prediction I made the day after the primary election. Nothing has changed the dynamic of the race, despite what some would have you think and despite some earlier musings.

Dunn’s victory Tuesday night will shock a few, surprise many. It’s going to be a damn close vote count. But Dunn will pull out the win.

Mumpower will ride to victory alongside Dunn. Holly and Robin will party together Tuesday night at the Laughing Seed Cafe, and they’ll indeed be laughing.

So we’ll have Dunn and Mumpower, Jones and Cape joining Terry Bellamy, who remains on the board despite her deflating loss to Dunn, Brownie Newman and Jan Davis. That gives the council four solid Democratic votes, and they will nudge city policies back toward a slow-growth, strong neighborhood stance. The past few years, it’s been more oriented toward pro-growth and being business friendly.

There you have it.

Still taking bets? I’m still with you on council, but I think Terry’s going to pull it off.
