YMI to stand against racism in Asheville on April 29

Join the YMI Cultural Center as we Stand against Racism with the Asheville YWCA.We will be hosting a Diversity Fair at the YMI Cultural Center on Friday, April 29, 2011 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.  

There will be representatives and information from local organizations working on racial justice. We encourage you to participate in the discussions about racism.  

The schedule for the day will be:

10:00 am – 11:30 am– Michael Carter, Diversity Officer from Mission Hospital, with a video and discussion about the definition of racism;

11:30 am – 1:00 pm– A team from Christians for a United Community leading a discussion on dismantling racism;

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm– Deborah Miles of the Center for Diversity Education with a discussion about Desegregating the Workplace;

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm– Building Bridges with a video on White Privilege

3:00 pm – 4:00 pm– ABIPA will show Unnatural Causes and lead a discussion on health disparities.

Also, Drinks and Dialogue with YWCA Asheville will be held that nite at Hole-N-Da-Wall. Topic is, is Asheville segregated? If so, why? Dialogue starts at 8pm 44 Market St.
