Word on the street: Well-known radio voice of Capt. Jeff Augram silenced at Clear Channel

Share

From loyal reader Mike:

After a couple of weeks of wondering when “Captain Jeff’s” vacation would be over and he’d be back on the air on the Clear Channel stations doing traffic reports, I decided to do a little Google searching. Learned that Clear Channel cut him loose in favor of their own corporate traffic service. There’s a Facebook page about it and some info on a couple of websites here and here.

I really don’t know him, and had mixed results during my WLOS days when trying to get info from him by phone, but after his 20-something years on the air, there are probably a lot of folks (like me) wondering what happened to him.

From one of the links above:

AUGRAM wrote on AUGUST 10th, “I’ve been trying to process a 10-minute meeting that did away with 23 years of what I always approached as giving back to our community. I’m still numb and bummed.”  He later wrote, “Being an independent in the big corporate world just doesn’t cut it anymore.”

I miss Jeff!

I was wondering why things changed. Traffic is one major reason I listen to the radio in the mornings, and I miss the familiar hum of Jeff's "on patrol" sound over the sound booth reading we have now.
