WLOSers hit by bad economy: Sinclair hands six their pink slips

Share

Loyal reader realityczech says that WLOS Channel 13 has also been hit with lay-offs as the bad economy continues its punishing ways:

Something going on behind the scenes at WLOS right now that might put this whole Asheville Citizen-Times thing in a bit better perspective. Remember when I referred to the term “Quid Pro Quo” recently? Like a day ago? Well, since then, six full-time employees at the television station received their pink slips. Cutbacks from corporate. Now six laid-off is nothing compared to the blood bath over at the newspaper, but no one will be talking about it on the record. It’s actually pretty simple and it happens more often than you know.

Thanks for your note, realityczech. You’re right — there’s a lot that goes on that we know nothing about, but in trying to get the bigger picture of what’s happening in our community, this is good information. Anybody have any other details about how Sinclair Broadcasting, the corporate parent of WLOS, is faring?

As everybody keeps saying: it’s gonna get worse before it gets better.

Jane Doe, you’re the coward, and there is no bias. I’ll explain.

I accidently deleted your comment while removing the usual spam I receive, and seeing as how you don’t use your real name, I couldn’t just write you back, now, could I? So who’s the real coward?

There’s no bias. Let me help you understand: The Citizen-Times is laying off 60 people. WLOS is laying off 6. That’s a big difference, and should merit different treatment.

I think it’s hilarious that you’re accusing me of being harder on the C-T than WLOS. Look back in the archives, and you’ll see how I’ve pilloried WLOSers many, many times.

Finally, this is my blog, my rules. This is not a newspaper. So get over it, and stop calling people cowards when you are the one hiding behind the veil of anonymity.

Jason, you’re a coward for not posting my other comment about your very pronounced bias when it comes to "reporting" this layoff versus the ACT layoffs. So, you left the ACT to "reinvent yourself?" Did you aspire to become a hypocrite? That’s what you have become.
