Jody Evans, the new executive director at WCQS officially took her new job this week. With a swank party full of tasty niblets and copious wine, Asheville’s premier public radio station welcomed its first change in leadership in 18 years.
The event was held on the third floor of the WCQS building on Broadway, across the street from the Bruisin’ Ales beer store and Asheville’s masonic temple. The station has been in the process of renovating the building for a couple of years now, and the top floor is the last to get the remodeling treatment. With unfinished floor boards and dry wall, the construction zone gave Evans’ welcoming event a work-in-process feel. That’s fitting, because from everything I can glean, there are changes coming to the station.
I missed Evans brief speech, so I’ll wait to report back once I’ve interviewed her (next week). The one tidbit I picked up at the party was that WCQS plans to use that top floor as a community space. More as I learn it.

Jodi and Barbara make a great team – Asheville is a blessed place !
Thank you, Barbara! (now looking up the Fraternal Order of Eagles…)
Glad you stopped by and so pleased you are going to interview Jody.
One correction : the event was held on the second floor of our wonderful old building. There is a third floor – both are in need of renovation . The third floor is the old ceremonial space of the Fraternal Order of Eagles , for whom the building was designed.
Thanks – and make sure you check out that thrrd floor when you come for the interview.
