The Age of Stupid, a live simulcast from New York City to more than 400 movie theaters nationwide — including Carolinas Cinemas here in Asheville — will be held tonight at 7:30 p.m. and you can win tickets here to see it.

What is The Age of Stupid? Here’s a snippet:

This four-year epic from McLibel director Franny Armstrong, stars Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking at old footage from 2008 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance? This one night event will feature a panel of scientists, celebrities, politicians and the film’s producer, Lizzie Gillet, and director Franny Armstrong. Audiences will also hear from field scientists working in the Himalayas and Indonesian rain forest via live satellite uplink. Radiohead’s Thom Yorke will wrap up the evening with an acoustic performance of the film’s title track.

Here’s a Wired story about the movie.

Here’s how you can win: In the comments section of this blog post, give me the name of the nordic scientist who first warned the world about the dangers of increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere way back before cars replaced horses. Hint: He was a Swedish scientist.
