When will WLOS flip the switch on digital TV?

Here’s the story from the Hendersonville Times-News:

Local television viewers who are not ready for the digital transition can breathe a sigh of relief.

Congress voted Wednesday to postpone the Feb. 17 analog sign-off date to June 12, giving people four more months to prepare.

As of Jan. 31, almost 7 percent of homes stretching from Mitchell County, N.C., to Greenwood were unprepared for the changeover, according to media market research firm Nielsen Co.

Most of the stations that broadcast in the Upstate, including WSPA News Channel 7, WHNS Fox 21 and WYFF 4, said Friday that they plan to wait until the June deadline.

Asheville, N.C.-based station 13 WLOS has not announced when it will make the transition, but as of late Friday, its Web site still was advertising Feb. 17 as the date of the switch.

SC ETV said it plans to turn off its analog transmitters in 10 days and begin broadcasting only in the digital format.

I just noticed last night that the WYFF HD channel on my HD digital tuner is no longer there! DId Mediacom cable drop it or did they go out from all cable systems? Plus, why does the picture seem to enlarge and crop itself off all the time now?

From the LA Times:

"All told, roughly a quarter of all broadcast TV stations could file to switch to digital-only before June 12, David Rehr, president of the National Assn. of Broadcasters, estimated Thursday. Among them are the 39 stations across the nation owned by Sinclair Broadcasting Group, which intends to switch Feb. 17."
