Over on the Mountain Xpress Twitter feed, there’s a note about an online ad asking for writers and photographers for a new web site called the Asheville Enquirer:
The Asheville Enquirer is looking to staff up with snarky writers and grandiose photographers for a heartfelt gripe-fest on the city of hipster smug. Tired of mouth-breathers? Tourists? Firefighters getting off scott-free for attempted murder of bicyclists? Join us. Compensation in the form of web advertising at first, then as much pay as we can muster per article/photograph once the advertising team can make a sale.
AVLenquirer@gmail.com to apply. Send samples of your work or a link to your online portfolio.
The Asheville Enquirer web site is just a shell right now. Anybody know who’s behind it? Is it going to be a web-only production, or will it include a print product? Sounds like fun.

Competition is a very good thing. I wish Sean lots of success. Yet another casualty from the Citizen-Times. Folks like him (and Jason) are doing their best to reinvent journalism in WNC.
Sean? I know Sean! I’ll ask him what’s going on.
Thanks sonsofliberty and Mike.
Thanks Karen!
Somebody named Sean Robinson (maybe this one — http://www.myspace.com/seansgiantego — former AC-T graphic designer, current webmaster of OIA) is behind it:

The domain name is registered to a Sean Robinson. The only Sean Robinson I could find that might have something to do with Internet journalism is one that works as a graphic designer at the Asheville CT here is a bit about him:

Who is Sean Robinson?
I AM ADDICTED TO YOUR SITE! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
My first guess on who’s behind it was going to be whomever piped up first. So there you go..
Indeed, Brownie.
Sounds like you may have some more competition!
