Here’s what we saw on the WLOS teevee box news Friday night:
More on Medford
WLOSers came back on the Thursday arrest of former sheriff Bobby Medford with a weak follow-up Friday. Holly Headrick talked to two people who said they gave money to Medford’s campaign, but not as much money as Medford’s old campaign finance reports show. That’s because Medford and his people were taking the cash they were making off the illegal video poker machines and buying money orders that they would make out to Medford’s fictional campaign committee. They would fill in people’s names to make it all look legit.
Headrick talked to John and Greg Spicer, owners of a local insurance company, who said they support law enforcement, but they sure didn’t like somebody using their name to do some illegal schizznit.
WLOSers also talked to a longtime Medford supporter, Betty Donoho (WLOSers pronounced it “Donahue”), who said the feds sure were aggressive when they went in Thursday morning to arrest Medford. She said they could have just called him and he would have come in. She said that if Medford did something wrong, he’d look you in the face and tell you. He was that kind of man. Good-hearted, she said. She added that she doesn’t condone illegal gambling.
WLOSers also talked to a Medford neighbor named Kelly Banner, who said she saw the whole arrest go down. She said it was exciting and alarming.
Medford will be in court on Monday, when they’ll decide whether he stays in jail or gets out on bond.
Body identified
The Transylvania County sheriff said the body found in a back yard in Brevard is that of David Morgan, a man reported missinga few weeks ago.
Car wash death
WLOSers said a Waynesville woman was killed at a car wash a couple of days ago. She was going through one of those automatic deals and surveillance video showed she dropped some money and opened her door to get it. But the car was still in drive, so she got caught in the car door and killed. Wow.
