WLOSer Russ Bowen started off the news with a Kassandra Pride story about a project to build 42 new homes in Clyde for victims of the floods of 2004. The story had no context, no depth. Just some video and a quote from a cheerleader volunteer who said she feels good helping people.
WLOSers apparently blew off the one newsworthy event of the day on Saturday – the State of Black Asheville gathering at UNCA. WLOSers had nothing on it at 6. Maybe they covered it at 11.
In other news…
There was a 20-acre brush fire in Haywood County on Chambers Mountain. It started Friday and was under control Saturday… WLOS weather-guesser Karen Wynne, rocking some weird blue velvet jacket, said it felt like spring Saturday with a high of 62, but it was going to get cold again… There was an ATV accident in McDowell County and o by the way, a report last week ranked N.C. 10th in the nation in ATV deaths… The Rev. Billy Graham is still recuperating after elective surgery at Mission hospitals last week… There’s a major flu outbreak across the nation and here in Ashvegas. Mitchell County schools closed one day last week, and hospitals are limiting patient visits.
