What’s in the news: Grinches, etc.

I’ve been gone for a week, but it doesn’t look like I missed too much. Here’s what I saw on the teevee box Saturday:

Thieves steal family’s Christmas
Kassandra Pride did a story on a local couple who had their truck stolen from Biltmore Square Mall. More upsetting than the loss of the truck was the loss of a coon dog, who was apparently in the truck. Kassandra said theives in the mountains have been stealing a lot of pick-up trucks lately. There was some weird sound at the end, with Kassandra signing off by saying, “This is Kassandra Pride in Brevard….”

In other news…
There’s a runaway from some place who has ties to Murphy… And Highway 321 in Caldwell County is now open after a rockslide closed the road for 18 hours over the weekend… Also, state House Speaker Joe Hackney has prostate cancer surgery and he’s back home.

Another stolen Christmas
Russ Bowen narrated a horribly sad story about a Hendersonville couple, but he never told us how we could help. Russ said the guy lost his job two months ago, while his wife just got a department store job. But somebody stole the wife’s car keys, she can’t get into her car, which sits in a parking lot. And it had some gifts in it from a local charity, apparently. Anyway, the couple has a 12-year-old boy who now apparently won’t get anything for Christmas. Really a pitiful story. I bet WLOSers follow up on this one.

In still other news…
There was something about a Hendersonville toy collection and a story about four Hendersonville families that got new homes through a home building charity. That was about it.
