We haven’t watched much news lately, so we’re still getting caught up. Here’s what WLOSers had on Wednesday evening:
Nativity controversy
Heather Graf brought us the story of a controversy over the nativity scene on display in front of the Macon County courthousse. Graf said a “constitutional watchdog group” called America United for the Separation of Church and State received a complaint from a local resident and then sent a letter to county commissioners arguing that the display is a violation of the church/state separation.
But the county said it’s in the clear, because the nativity is grounds marked with a sign saying the area is a “public forum” where anybody can put any kind of display.
Graf laughed it all off at the end, saying locals say the controversy pops up every couple of years, but nothing ever comes of it.
