Loyal reader Kai sent me a note recently about an upcoming play he’s directing at Western Carolina University. It sounds like a great show, doing just what good theater should do — challenge.
Here’s Kai:
As a Theatre and Film major at Western Carolina University I am directing a student run stage production of the controversial play “CLOSER”. Yes, it is the play that was made into the movie starring Julia Roberts, Clive Owen, Jude Law and Natalee Portman.
Since we have begun advertising this play it has started a firestorm of interest. Probably because the University of WCU itself doesn’t normally select plays of this nature… so it took a “student run” organization- The University Players… to bring in something more mature and something with more depth.
The play opens Feb. 18-21 at WCU’s Niggli Theatre. Doors open at 7:00 PM and the play starts at 7:30. The admission price is $5.
**Warning: For Mature Audiences Only: Adult Language, Smoking, and Adult Situations.**
This trailer for the play is great. Check it. And go out and support Kai and WCU’s student directors, actors and theater hands.

I saw two rehearsals and it is great! Moves really fast, too. The trailer fills in some background, so it’s useful to see it if you get a chance.
Looks great! I’m glad the University Players are taking risks like this!
Excellent trailer!..I cant wait to see the play
A "TheatreLover" should know what this play is about. You must be jealous. It’s a positively brilliant trailer. Very well done. It most certainly makes me want to see this play. Great job.
Alas, that long, long trailer didn’t tell me anything about the play or the production and didn’t whet my appetite to see it.
