Straight from the WCQS newsroom:
The University of North Carolina Asheville will confer an honorary doctoral degree on legendary musician Doc Watson at the university’s spring commencement ceremony.
In 1977, Watson was given the national Medal of the Arts from President Bill Clinton and in 2000 he was inducted into the International Blue Grass Music Hall of Fame.
Watson is a native of Western North Carolina. He has won seven Grammy Awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. At 86 years of age, Watson is still performing. The UNCA spring commencement ceremony is May 16.
Here’s a pic of Watson that I shot at Merlefest a couple of years ago. I plan to see him again this year at Merlefest. I also hope to interview him. Doc Watson is a true treasure.

That is awesome and well-deserved. I think WCQS has a typo. I’m pretty darn sure Clinton wasn’t president in 1977.
D’ohhhh! I will commence in December and am royally bummed to miss sharing the stage with the one and only.
