Wanted: Executive director of Handmade in America

Share

There’s a job posting still up for one of the top positions in the arts around Asheville – that of executive director of Handmade in America. The annual salary advertised is $65,000 to $75,000.

Way back in January, controversy erupted when then-Executive Director Geraldine Plato left the organization. I’m still unclear as to whether or not she left of her own accord. But board members of Handmade have said they’re evolving, and working toward a new chapter in the life of the organization. That reminds me of what another prominent local arts organization, the Asheville Arts Council, is going through.

Plato started on March 1, 2008. She replaced founder and longtime director Becky Anderson, who stepped down to begin a consulting company.

At the time of Plato’s departure, Handmade board members said they would launch a national search. That was in February. We’re now into July. Want more background? Check out this comprehensive Mountain Xpress story by Rebecca Sulock.

Thanks to loyal reader Doc Jenny for the reminder about this.
