Here are details of the Asheville City Schools Foundation’s new fund-raiser, dubbed the Field Day of Awesomeness. The kicker, not mentioned in the release below, is that the team of four that wins the competition will win tickets to attend ActionFest in April and meet special guest Chuck Norris. How cool is that?

Read on, from loyal reader Ashley:

In order to meet the need created by the statewide budget shortfall, the Asheville City Schools Foundation pledged to give more instead of less this year.  In order to do that they had to think creatively, draw in partners across the community and be willing to “leave it all on the field”.

That mission formulated a recipe for a fun-raiser extraordinaire—the Field Day of Awesomeness!  In order to pull it off, Co-Director Leah Ferguson had to commandeer the talents of Race for Awesomeness founder Richard Handy who made the Asheville Idiotarod a household name.

What is the Field Day of Awesomeness? It’s a team competition that takes your traditional ideas of Field Day and twists them into awesome!  You and three of your friends will get to show off your flair in the Moon Walk relay, spin your face off in Dizzy Bat and much more.

“Think the best part of spring at school, add a whole lot of laughs and you’ve probably got the picture,” explains ACS Foundation Co-Director Leah Ferguson.

All proceeds will go to support high quality programming for kids in our public schools. Programs provide students with integrated arts, hands-on conservation education, seek to close the achievement gap and connect with 21st century skills.

Things to note: use alternative transportation (bike, bus, or walk) and receive a redeemable time reduction.

Come with a team theme costume and enter the team theme competition.

Bring a team member under 18 and compete in the Family Division.

Registration is now open.

Date: Sunday, April 18 from 1-5, After Party at 5:30

I think a better prize would be that you don’t have to meet Chuck Norris.
