The August issue of Verve magazine is on the streets, with Asheville’s barbecue queen on the cover – Sabra Kelley of 12 Bones. But the story that got me thinking was a feature about a month-long exhibition called “Immersion” going up at The Artery gallery in the River Arts District.
Two up-and-coming fashion designers will be featured – Stina Andersen of ARTeries and Kristina Benshoff of Provocation. Asheville designer Moe Donnelly has a new show opening on the same date as Immersion, Aug. 6.
The answer to the question posed – is the River Arts District Asheville’s new fashion district? – is: not yet. But it well could be. It will be fun to see the creations of Andersen and Benshoff, and whether or not they can attract others. Put these openings on your calendar.
Read the Verve story here, and check out other fun features on cool local ladies, including actress Andie MacDowell’s dancing daughter Sarah Margaret, as well as photographer/deli worker/blogger Jennifer Callahan, who blogs at ashevilleindieweddings.com.

Originality is not a DVD with a scratch on it, Asheville is just that, the same thing over and over again.
So, what is original?
The area by the river is a giant joke nothing original at all just like the rest of Asheville.
And before anyone tells me to leave, I suggest you take your complaint up with the first amendment and deal with it.
I Love The River Arts District and can't wait to see how it thrives over the next several years.
