Lots of folks weighed in with their comments on the photo above after I posted it on Monday. This morning, I received a call from Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Ross Dillingham, who reported that the officer who put the sign up had been disciplined.
One commenter on Monday suggested that I send the photo to www.passiveaggressivenotes.com. I’d never heard of the site, but should have known — there’s a web site for everything. Since it’s not my photo, I’ll leave that decision up to loyal reader Chris, who sent in the photo.
Thanks to the Sheriff’s Department for being responsive and taking this episode seriously.

Good job Ash… it’s made the AP wire and you are indirectly mentioned.
As always in Asheville the people doing the crimes go unpunished and the folks who are trying to uphold the laws get reprimanded.
i think that the sign is very funny and only the person that did the spitting should be offended , the sign is no more disrespectful than the idiot spitting on a police car.
Southern Girl, you must be a fool, and illiterate at that. He says this in the original post:
"By the same token, we should show our men and women of the badge the respect that comes with the job. After all, we trust these folks to keep us safe and we call upon them when we’re in an emergency."
Take a few ESL classes and then try again, "moron." The last thing LEOs need is a nut like you defending them against someone who’s not attacking them.
southerngirl…No one was saying they agreed with the spitter’s actions nor are they belittling the work officers do everyday. Besides being a question of professionalism, the sign was funny and found around Asheville. It has every right to be on ashvegas.
Old Rose, i agree.
southerngirl – yup, this is the best we got. if you don’t like it, don’t come back.
You all must be hurting for news. If this is the best you can come up with. How about if someone comes and spits tobacco juice on your car? What would you do? I would love to see you go do a School Resources Officer job for one week. You go deal with 1400 kids everyday and see how you are at the end of the week. You wouldn’t make it a week. Why don’t you publish some stories worth reading? Why don’t you focus on all of the Officers that are getting killed in the Line of Duty. Do you risk your life everyday for someone you don’t even know? NO you don’t and you probably never would. Why don’t you get a real job? Ashvegas is a joke!!
Spitting on an officer or his vehicle is a form of assault, and the individual who did it could be ticketed for doing so.
It’s a shame the parents haven’t taught the individual to respect others.
yay!
Done.
