For the second time in the last few months, the university is hosting an exciting – and deliciously dweeby – guest (Max Brooks was there not too long ago sharing his secrets on how to survive a zombie apocalypse).
I need to track down these geniuses behind recent programming and give them a solid high-five!
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, graphic novelist Gareth Hinds will give a multimedia presentation on his body of work. Here is the press release about the event:
Graphic Novelist Gareth Hinds to Present Lecture on Artistic Process and Career
Gareth Hinds is the creator of several critically-acclaimed graphic novel adaptations of classic literature, including Beowulf, King Lear, and the Odyssey. His multimedia presentation will focus on his artistic process and career, including his choice of classic themes, as well as touching on aspects of production and marketing. The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in UNC Asheville’s Humanities Lecture Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Hinds’ publications include five graphic novels and a number of graphic short stories. His work has been featured in various exhibitions, including “Fine Toon” in the Helen Day Art Center in Vermont, the New York Historical Society’s “Slavery in New York” and the Society of Illustrators “ILLUSTRATORS 44 Exhibition” in New York. His work within the computer animation industry has included creating 2D and 3D art for environments, characters, conceptual design, modeling, animation and art direction.
