Asheville really is Beer City USA. Check it out – a local campaign going national. Press release:

Pabst Blue Ribbon beer isn’t just for hipsters anymore. In fact, the Universal Joint Bar in West Asheville is making sure PBR is for dogs, too.

The Haywood road establishment is hosting its second “PBR for Pups” event from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13. Proceeds from sales of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer that afternoon will benefit Asheville Humane Society.  Those who choose to order different drinks or food will be encouraged to add to the donations. “PBR for Pups” logo t-shirts and hats will also be on sale, along with raffle tickets for prizes donated by local and national businesses to help raise funds. In addition, dogs from Asheville Humane Society will be available for adoption.

“PBR for Pups” is the brainchild of Universal Joint Bar manager Jason Allison, who established the creative fundraiser at his restaurant in Georgia when a friend’s pets were in need.

“We put on five events in Atlanta and then brought the idea to the mountains. This is the second Asheville event this year. In June, our patrons helped raise more than $2,500 for Brother Wolfe Animal Rescue. We hope this event will raise even more,” he said.

In fact, all events have been so successful that PBR is taking the fundraiser national. “PBR for Pups” events will also be held in Atlanta and Dallas on the same weekend, hoping to raise funds for animal advocacy groups in those cities.

“Asheville Humane Society loves being involved with creative, fun events that make it easy for people to help homeless animals,” said Katherine McGowan, interim President/CEO of Asheville Humane Society. “We’re elated and thankful that the U-Joint picked us to benefit from this event and all proceeds will help us save lives!”
