In February, people from all over the world joined together for Twestival and, community by community, raised over $250,000 for 55 different clean drinking water projects. All of this was organized using Twitter, the social networking tool “micro-bloggers” use to post “tweets” in 140 characters or less. This year, Twestival Local is back and promises to be even better with one million dollars projected to be raised in one month in countless locales across the globe.
Asheville, North Carolina, known for its natural beauty and vibrant arts community, is also home to a an active Twitter community that will be out in full force for Twestival. Twestival Local Asheville will be raising money for the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP), a nonprofit that works to keep farmers farming and reconnect people with their food.
Asheville’s Twestival Local will include farm fresh produce, a photobooth, local beer, and food from Asheville’s renowned restaurants. This not-to-be missed event is great opportunity to hear Asheville bands and network with internet savvy people in the community, while raising money for a good cause.
